Matthew 12:36 (KJV): “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”
Have you ever thought about the words you speak? Those words spoken in anger when someone has upset you, or those words spoken with love from the depths of your heart. All through the scriptures it talks about our words and the power of what we speak, but did you realize that what we say will be judged? For me, that is a scary realization at times because I know that I have said things I shouldn’t have. I’ve said things in frustration, anger, jealousy, and resentment. I saw a very powerful picture once that had small words all over a model’s skin. The caption had said something to the effect of, “what if every word we say was displayed on our skin for the whole world to see?” I know in my own reflection, I’d be so ashamed of the words I’ve spoken.
This scripture lets us know that we should be aware. Aware of our own hearts. Matthew 15:18 says that what comes from our mouth, comes from our hearts. The things we say to others or about others is a direct reflection on ourselves and it causes damages on levels we might not truly understand. I am also convicted that not only the words we say verbally will be accounted for, but also what we right on social media and even texts and emails.
Be aware brothers and sisters. Be aware of each other and of your own hearts.
