A pair of men were arrested Wednesday afternoon after admitting they were trolling the streets looking to buy marijuana, but claiming they had been unsuccessful. The two were promptly arrested after officers discovered they were not as unsuccessful as they had implied.
Wednesday afternoon about 2:35 p.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department were in the area of Daniel Street when officers observed a male approach the passenger side of a suspicious van parked in the area.
As officers approached the vehicle, the unknown male noticed police presence and immediately walked away from the vehicle. The male then briefly walked down Daniel Street, but turned around and headed back toward the vehicle as soon as officers passed the area.
Thinking this was suspicious, unmarked police were called to the area and began watching the incident.
After watching the suspicious individual interact with the occupants of the vehicle, eventually officers made contact with the driver and asked what they were doing in the area, which is a high drug crime zone.
As police spoke with the driver, Dorsey Henderson, officers noticed the passenger was fumbling with some black gloves in his lap.
While investigating the incident, police learned Henderson was not from LaGrange and was staying in a motel off Lafayette Parkway, so they thought it was odd that he was in this particular area.
Henderson was then confronted and asked to be honest and he eventually admitted he was in the area to buy some “dope,” but claimed no one would sell to him.
Police then spoke with the passenger, John Badon, who denied having any drugs and gave consent to search his person, but no contraband was found on either subject. Consent was then given to search the vehicle and police began to inspect the gloves that Badon had been fumbling with. Inside the gloves was a balled up piece of paper that contained a small amount of suspected marijuana.
Due to Henderson stating that he was there to purchase marijuana and it being seen in Badon’s possession, officers elected to charge both suspects with possession and took them into custody.
Henderson, age 43, and Badon, age 38, were arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where they were booked into the jail and charged with Possession of Marijuana – Less than an Ounce.
Henderson and Badon were both later released from the Troup County Jail on bond.
