• Help Support Our Teachers with the Stuff the Bus at KIA of LaGrange, 1217 Lafayette Parkway, LaGrange. As students in Troup County return to school in August, there are many who will find it difficult to have all the necessary supplies. KIA of LaGrange would like to be able to help support the local teachers and students by raising awareness and stuffing our bus. Throughout the month of July, we will be stuffing the KIA bus with school supplies that will be donated to the Troup County School System. Items needed are Clorox wipes, pencils, notebook paper, crayons, book bags, zippered binders, erasers, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, and expo markers. Also needed is colored pencils, Kleenex, paper towels, Ziploc bags (all sizes), pocket folders, 3 prong folders, 3 ring binders (1”) card stock, and travel size hygiene supplies. • August 4th: Everyone is invited to the Thursday Lunch Club (TLC) on Thursday, August 4 at noon. Dr. Brian Germano is the feature music program. TLC is the senior outreach ministry of First United Methodist Church serving lunch, only $6, and entertainment for the senior citizens of West Georgia and East Alabama. You do not have to be a ‘senior’ to attend; however, reservations are required and seating is limited. All are Welcome! For reservations, call 706-884-4635 or churchoffice@lagrangefumc.org.

• August 5: Troup County Historical Society Annual Banquet – Horace King and Family: Building Bridges Across the Community. Reception at Legacy Museum at 6:00 pm. Dinner at Del’avant at 7:00 pm. Recognizing people who carry on the spirit of Horace King in building bridges across the community. Event will include dinner, entertainment, Spirit of Horace King Awards presentation, and unveiling and auction of an original Annie Greene painting of a Horace King Bridge with limited-edition, hand-signed and numbered prints available for purchase. • August 5: Summer Music & Movie Series – Downtown LaGrange. 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Free music and movie at Sweetland in Downtown LaGrange. Bring a picnic dinner or carryout from your favorite downtown eatery. Enjoy live music and a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Movie will begin at dusk. Chairs available on a first come, first served basis. Free/Public Welcome.

• August 6th: Show-n-Tell is giving back to Community with their Back To School Backpack/Supplies. Come pick up free backpacks and supplies on August 6, 2016 at 9:30 am at 517 Hamilton Road, LaGrange. Hosted By: Shown- Tell Club of LaGrange.

• August 6th: Summer Basketball Shoot Out at William Griggs Recreation Center will be held Saturday, August 6 from 9 am – 12 pm. There will be warm ups and drills from 9 am – 10 am. Round robins league and tournament play. Girls and Boys, 6th grade and up, are welcome. Must do drills and sign waiver before participating in this event.

• August 12th: Join us for a couples dance on Friday, August 12, at 8:00 p.m. at the LaFayette Christian School Gym, 1904 Hamilton Road in LaGrange. You will enjoy swing, slow dancing, waltz, polka, samba, cha-cha, tango, foxtrot, and much more! Visitor couples are welcome – $20 per couple. • August 13: Battle of the Bands at Sweetland from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Local band competition. Join the fun and listen to emerging local bands as they compete to be the best! Bring your chairs and a picnic to enjoy the concert live from the Sweetland Amphitheatre.

• August 14th: On Sunday, August 14, Hair Cutz for Kids will hold their 9th Annual event from 1 to 5 pm at the Williams Griggs Center, located at 7161 Glenn Robertson Street.

• August 15 – September 19: CASA of Troup County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is in need of community volunteers. Volunteers will be screened and trained to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children involved in dependency proceedings while they are in foster care. Training classes will be August 15 – September 19 on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. The trainings will be held at the CASA office at 118 Ridley Avenue. Please contact June L.
