Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators have tracked down and arrested the man accused of a heinous attacked where he allegedly attacked a male victim with a hand axe and ran him over with that he borrowed and later stole.
Sheriff’s Investigators arrested the suspect, Cy Lamar Carson, after he was spotted driving the vehicle he was accused of stealing around 7 p.m. Thursday night. Deputies made a stop on him in the Hogansville area where Investigators had been monitoring the area for some time. When Carson returned, he was arrested and taken into custody.
Deputies thought they had gotten a break in the case after a vehicle similar to the one stolen by Carson was found badly burned on Lovic Davis Road near Liberty Hill Road. Investigators say the Nissan Maxima was burned to a crisp, so they couldn’t actually confirm if the burned vehicle was the same one used by Carson.
The burned car was obviously a separate vehicle because Carson was arrested in the stolen vehicle, which had damage from where he allegedly ran over the victim. Carson had borrowed the Nissan from a friend to travel from Hogansville to Teaver Road where the violent attack took place and he went on the run, not returning the car.
Investigation into the original incident revealed that Carson drove to a residence on Teaver Road after dark, where he confronted the male victim in a dispute over his former girlfriend. Investigators say Carson appears to have been angry because his former girlfriend had left him and began living with the victim.
During the dispute Carson allegedly began attacking the victim with hand axe, striking him multiple times in the head, causing serious injuries. He then allegedly ran over the victim with the aforementioned Nissan before fleeing the area in the vehicle.
The victim suffered gaping lacerations to his head, a fractured skull, and partially severed ear. He was later airlifted to an undisclosed hospital in Atlanta for emergency treatment.
Carson, age 32, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail and charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault with a Vehicle, and Auto Theft.
As of press time, Carson is being held at the Troup County Jail where he was denied bond.
