“Calling all superheroes! Please give blood!” LifeSouth Community Blood Center’s summer campaign features this superheroes-themed slogan calling men and women to save lives through donating blood. And what better men and women continue saving lives than our own local heroes in the LaGrange Fire and Police Departments?
Alice Moore of LifeSouth partnered with Rob Vael of the LaGrange Fire Department to open up his station on 115 Hill Street as the location for the blood drive while firemen, policemen, and community members took their spots in line to give blood. Alice praised the LaGrange Fire and Police Departments for their support and eagerness to help out. They were “very receptive and very excited to do this,” she said.
Bringing the community together as a whole (from the LaGrange Fire and Police Departments all the way to local civilians) means something to LifeSouth. LifeSouth will donate 100% of the blood from this drive to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, just as all blood donations from this area, supplied by LifeSouth, continuously support the local hospital.
Based out of Opelika, LifeSouth supplies blood to East Alabama and West Georgia. They host blood drives on a monthly basis and make it their goal to connect the community with the opportunity to give back as often as possible. Their next campaign will begin in the fall, titled Bleed for Your Team. LifeSouth always makes tshirts available for donors and promises creative SECthemed t-shirts for their upcoming operation.
Just around the corner, on September 17th, LifeSouth will also host the Bring the Ages Together Free Health & Festival, a community-wide event including State Representatives, Local Civic and Health Agencies, and small businesses. Come on out to 507 East Depot Street where there will be free food, door prizes, and more. All proceeds from this event will go to the GA Diabetes Coalition and The Alfred Jennings Free Health & Screening Clinics. Maximize the community service opportunities that LifeSouth gives – opportunities that allow you to become a local hero. Give blood. Support LifeSouth. Follow the example and answer the call to save lives, whenever and however you can, just as our brave men and women of the LaGrange Fire and Police Departments do every day.
