A local man was critically injured after running his vehicle off the road Saturday afternoon on West Lukken Industrial Drive in LaGrange.
Police quickly responded to the accident with reports of injuries shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon where they found the victim had wrecked his blue Ford Mustang convertible in front of the Milliken Design Center.
The 24-year-old driver had extensive injures and was subsequently airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation of the crash indicated the Mustang was travelling east on West Lukken Industrial Drive when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a right hand turn at high speed. The vehicle then slid 292 feet until the driver’s side impacted a large tree. The vehicle then continued on for a short distance before coming to an uncontrolled stop in front of the Milliken Design Center.
As of last report the victim is still hospitalized, but listed in stable condition. Fortunately, the driver was wearing a seatbelt and an airbag deployed, which may have saved his life.
The vehicle sustained extensive damage and it was towed from the scene.
The driver is expected to be charged with Driving Too Fast for Conditions and Failure to Maintain Lane.
