The string of bad wrecks here in LaGrange and Troup County continued this past Monday with the collision of a van and semi on I-85 early that morning. This marks the third fatal wreck in the span of just a couple of days in our community and hopefully this a trend that will not continue on as fall makes its way into our town.
Monday morning, September 26, was a sad and sobering time on I-85 headed towards Columbus. A collision between a blue Kia Sedona mini-van, driven by Lisa Wingate, age 38, of LaGrange, and a conventional freightliner resulted in one fatality. The van was speeding down the highway and following too closely to the trailer when the van ran into and struck the back of the truck. The force with which the van struck the back of the trailer resulted in the death of the driver and totaled the truck. There does not seem to be any outside distraction or interference that played cause to this horrible accident.
The collision happened just past the exit ramp of Upper Big Springs Road. The Fire Department, Sheriff’s Officers, and GSP rushed to the scene to attend to those involved and to keep traffic orderly. These men and women with these different agencies always work tirelessly for the victims and anyone involved with tragedies such as this. As always, thoughts are with the families of those that are affected by this loss.
