Police Get Two For One In Hotel Incidents

LaGrange Police have arrested a pair of suspects by being in the right place at the right time. Police quickly nabbed an Entering Auto Theft suspect due to being on patrol across the street when the in progress incident was called in. While investigating this case, police were notified of a second incident at the location that led to another arrest. Friday night about 10:33 pm, officers with the LaGrange Police Department were called to the Lafayette Garden Inn on Lafayette Parkway in reference to an Entering Auto in progress. Officers were on patrol across the street when the incident occurred, so police immediately responded and located the suspect.

Police say the suspect, Dion Debrae Hart, was observed entering a green Jeep Wrangler that was parked outside near the Lafayette Garden Inn in front of the IHOP. Hart was then detained while detectives were called to further investigate.

Officers were able to locate a witness who observed Hart walk from the passenger side of the Jeep and stand, looking into the rear of the vehicle. The victim later discovered the center console within the Jeep was left open and several items missing.

The stolen property was later recovered in various trashcans where Hart was observed by witnesses discarding the items.

As a result of the investigation, Hart, age 46, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail and charged with Entering Auto Theft.

Hart is currently being held at the Troup County Jail where he was denied bond.

While investigating the incident, police were alerted to a fight in progress within the hotel.

Officers then began to investigate the second incident and spoke with one of the involved subject, Derek Franklin Caudill, who stated he had been in the bar drinking, but the bartender refused to give him another drink because he was too intoxicated.

Caudill stated he then began to leave, at which point an unknown person hit him, so he fought back and struck the subjects as he was exiting the bar. He claimed an unknown person then followed him to his room.

Caudill was then detained and consensually searched, during which he admitted he may have had too much to drink.

Police then spoke to a female, who stated that Caudill struck her in the face after several people in the bar tried to get him to leave. The female’s father also stated he was struck in the face by Caudill after he came to help her when he saw her struck by Caudill.

Officers also spoke to the hotel clerk, who stated that she saw the whole incident. She advised Caudill ran out the bar and struck the male and female in the face.

As a result, Caudill, age 21, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness.

As of press time Caudill is being held at the Troup County Jail on $2,000 bond.
