LaGrange Police arrested a man wanted for Child Molestation and Statutory Rape during a traffic stop late Friday night where he was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.
Friday night about 10:17 p.m., officers with the La-Grange Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a blue Cadillac STS in the area of New Franklin Road for a headlight violation.
Police made contact with the driver, who advised he did not have his license with him, but identified himself as D’Anthony Nytiorus Anderson.
Officers were familiar with Anderson due to police supervisors passing around a picture of him in a morning meeting indicating he had two active warrants for his arrest.
After confirming the warrants for Child Molestation and Statutory Rape, Anderson was placed under arrest and taken into custody.
Anderson was then searched to arrest and he was found to be in possession of a small clear plastic baggie containing four red pills in the pocket of the second pair of gym shorts he was wearing. Police were initially unable to closely check the pills due to Anderson’s family arriving on scene and poor lighting conditions, but officers later determined the pills were suspected MDMA/ Ecstasy, a Schedule I Narcotic. Anderson later refused to speak about the pills without a lawyer present.
As a result, Anderson, age 19, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail and charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance and warrants for Child Molestation and Statutory Rape from 2015.
The suspected amphetamine pills were turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for further testing.
This incident is still under investigation by the La-Grange Police Department Criminal Investigation Section.
