With construction work for the new Marriott Courtyard taking up a large part of downtown LaGrange, this year’s annual Fall Festival changed locations from Lafayette Square to the Sweetland Amphitheatre.
On Saturday, October 29, the amphitheatre was packed with children dressed as fun characters who were ready for carnival games, trick-ortreating, and the costume contest. All across the right side of the front lawn, members of First Baptist Church on the Square passed out bean bags as children enjoyed “Conk the Crow”, along with the bouncy house and other fun games. A crowd of candylovers wrapped around the left side of the amphitheatre’s parking lot to enter the trickor- treat line, too.
On the amphitheatre’s stage, a large crowd gathered to watch the costume contest. The contest was split into four age categories: 0-12 months, 1-4 years, 5-9 years, and 10-12 years of age. Each category had one male and one female winner, along with an overall male and female winner between all of the age categories. From the 0-12 month division, 1st Place for the girls went to Raggedy Ann, and 1st Place for the boys went to the Flintstones duo. In the 1-4 year-olds category, the Little Old Lady won 1st Place for the girls, and Edward Scissorhands won 1st Place for the boys. For the 5-9 years-old category, I Love Lucy received 1st Place for the girls, and the Fire Truck took home 1st Place for the boys. Then, for the last category, the 10-12 year-olds category, the girls’ 1st Place went to the Mobile Vet, and the boys’ 1st Place went to the Hobbit’s Bilbo Baggins.
Sweetland Amphitheatre had a great turnout hosting this year’s annual Fall Festival. It was a time for family and friends to come together to enjoy candy, costumes, and community fellowship.
