LaGrange Police have arrested a local teen on robbery and gang charges after he allegedly robbed a family friend outside a convenience store in LaGrange.

Friday afternoon about 1:24 p.m., LaGrange Police responded to the Hot Spot convenience store on South Greenwood Street in reference reports of a Robbery.

Police arrived and spoke with the adult male victim, who stated that he had just exited and was talking to two males on the south side of the building near the front door. The victim was initially unable to provide the names of the young men, but stated he knows both of them are teenagers and they were family friends.

The victim stated one of the teenagers then walked off and the other stated he was going around the back of the store and he would be back. The victim then handed the assailant a small amount of cash and he fled the area on foot, running behind the Hot Spot toward Cherry Street.

Police say the victim appeared upset and frustrated due to the situation. He stated multiple times that he knows the young black male who robbed him, but he could not believe what happened.

Officers were later able to identify the armed assailant as Jamal Garret, of Callaway Avenue in LaGrange.
