LaGrange Police are seeking help in identifying and locating a man who allegedly stole more than a thousand dollars worth of tools from a local store.

The felony shoplifting investigation began about 9:25 a.m. Wednesday morning when officers with the LaGrange Police Department reported to the Home Depot on Lafayette Parkway in reference reports of a theft.

While en-route, officers were advised that the suspect had left the area in a silver vehicle with a red dealer tag, but they were unable to locate the vehicle.

Police arrived and spoke with the store’s Loss Prevention Officer, who advised the suspect was a white male, estimated to be in his late thirties. The subject was seen moving throughout the store in a suspicious manner which caused them to become suspicious.

The male came into the store empty handed, but left pushing black rolling tool box through the garden store exit which was full of tools he collected throughout the store. The Loss Prevention Officer advised the male came into the store and started grabbing random items along with power tools from various sections throughout store.

The Loss Prevention Officer stated he personally witnessed the male place several items into the black toolbox, which he had not purchased. The subject then made his way out the garden shop exit, bypassing a register and cashier.

Another employee advised they witnessed the male exiting the store with the black toolbox and immediately asked him for a receipt. The employee stated the male then began to walk faster and entered a silver 90s model Volvo.

The suspect then fled in the silver vehicle turning left onto Lafayette Parkway toward Downtown La-Grange. Officers searched the surrounding area, but were ultimately unable to locate the silver Volvo.

The store’s Loss Prevention Officer was later able to identify the items taken as two Dewalt 45 piece Maxfit screw-driving sets, valued at $15.97 each, three M18 Brushless two-tool combo kits, valued at $299 each, a M18 Lithium XC 5.0AH battery, valued at $129, a Husky 15G cart, valued at $49.97, three Dewalt 35 feet tape measures, valued at $34.97 each, a Gerber MP600 Basic 14-in-1 multi-tool, valued at $49.97, and eight Dewalt adjustable wrenches 2-packs, valued at $19.97 each, for a total theft of $1,422.55.
