Sheriff James Woodruff promotes City Light's BUY A TREE. CHANGE A LIFE. project

Buy A Tree, Change A Life At City Light Church

Four years ago, a family of Life Pointe Church in Homestead, Florida needed $25,000 to officially adopt their Ethiopian child. Their church family wanted to help, and they decided to sell Christmas trees to raise the necessary funds. At the end of the holiday season, 450 Christmas trees had been sold and the goal of reaching $25,000 was met.

From the first year, this event became known as BUY ATREE. CHANGE A LIFE. Its message of success has not only raised nearly $500,000 since 2012, but it has also become the creation catalyst of ForHope.us, a non-profit organization that partners with churches across the nation to reach out to global and local children.

Donating to the BUY A TREE. CHANGE A LIFE. project through ForHope.us supports children’s homes, learning centers, schools, and feeding programs. But, better yet, it involves the incredible opportunity to sponsor a child in need by supplying that specific child with education, mentoring, food, and housing. From backpack giveaways and mentoring programs, all the way to college scholarships, BUY A TREE. CHANGE A LIFE. meets the needs of each child, whether he or she lives in the backyard of La-Grange or across the Atlantic.

For the first time ever, our very own City Light Church of LaGrange is hosting one out of the nationwide 40 BUYATREE. CHANGE A LIFE. events. City Light’s focus is on the People for Care and Learning, another branch of this wonderful mission that specializes in caring for orphans after they turn 18. Mark Davenport, Pastor of City Light Church of LaGrange, explained that People for Care and Learning provides the orphans with scholarships to attend college “so they’re not thrown back into poverty… we just wanted to be a part of that.”

Pastor Mark went on to say that even though the Christmas tree prices are marked similarly to other local Christmas tree vendors, “what we’re asking people to do is come in and buy a tree and pay extravagantly more for the tree than it’s worth because it’s about the donations; it’s about the giving.” They are top quality Fraser Fir Christmas trees, continuously watered at the Christmas tree lot and available in sizes from 5 feet to 13 feet. So join this church family at 501 4th Avenue as they sell Christmas trees until they’re all gone to raise funds for sponsoring children all throughout the world.
