Helpful Citizen Robs Man At Gunpoint

Things took a turn for the worst this past Wednesday morning for a man looking for a ride on the interstate near Lafayette Parkway. As a car pulled over to the side in an appearance to help the man, the driver pulled out a gun and pointed it at the man who in turn, gave him the money he had. Fortunately, this case has been resolved.

On Wednesday, December 7 at approximately 4:30 am, Officers responded to the area of Lafayette Parkway near the Southbound on ramp to Interstate 85 in regards to an Armed Robbery. Officers made contact with the victim who stated that he was obtaining a ride from an unknown black male in a gold in color Chevrolet Impala with an Alabama tag. The victim said the subject stopped the vehicle near the Southbound ramp to Interstate 85, pointed a pistol at him and demanded all his money. The victim gave the subject an undisclosed amount of money and the subject fled the area. The victim said the vehicle contained two black females and two black males.

Troup County Deputies located the vehicle traveling south on Interstate 85 and conducted a traffic stop. The occupants were detained and brought to the police department for further questioning. After further investigation by the LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Section, King Alexander was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of Firearm during the Commission of a Crime, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.

During the course of this investigation it was determined that the vehicle Alexander was driving was stolen from Montgomery, Alabama. The other three occupants were not charged.

It is very much a crazy world in which we live. Things around us are dangerous and you could be at risk at any time if you are not aware of your surroundings. It is sad that you cannot rely on the kindness of strangers for a ride or anything else, but these are the times in which we live. Please be safe this holiday season and make sure to exercise caution in every decision that you make.
