Storyteller Donald Davis Mesmerizes Attendees With His Story

The Thursday Lunch Club (TLC) met at noon March 2, 2017 in the Fellowship Hall of the LaGrange First United Methodist Church. There were 182 people who enjoyed a delicious meal of Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole, Peas and Carrots, Spinach Salad, Rice, Rolls, and Chess Cake for dessert along with coffee, tea or water. The meal was prepared by Rick Free, Director of Food Service at LaGrange First UMC, Jim Hardy and other volunteers. The tables were cleverly decorated with stacks of literary books in keeping with the storytelling theme by the Elizabeth Women’s Circle of the La-Grange First UMC. These women also hosted and served the meal.

Joyce Morgan Young, Program Chair, welcomed everyone and called on Dr. Brian Germano, Sr. Pastor, First United Methodist Church LaGrange, to add his welcome and blessing.

Following the meal, Joyce thanked Rick Free and his helpers for the meal. She thanked the Elizabeth UMW Circle for serving and hosting the meal and for the placement of the beautiful table decorations. Joyce thanked Judy Bledsoe for conducting the blood pressure checks and Parker Davenport and Perry Praider from Holmes Pharmacy for administering blood sugar checks prior to the meal. Our greeters for today were Freddie Hagan, Janet Johnson and Peggy Wiles. Enid Tate, Gail Walsh, Bobbie Richie and Tee Borders assisted with the attendee list and donations.

Everyone in attendance with a birthday in March was given a homemade cupcake by Donna Ennis wife of Richard Ennis, New York Life Agent. A drawing was held for four $20 gift certificates donated by Southern Charm in LaGrange. The winners were: Lou Castro, Laura Faulkner, Cecile Keeble and John Ruggiero.

Joyce Morgan Young i n troduced the program featuring Storyteller Donald Davis. Davis was a United Methodist Minister for 25 years, authored 18 books and more than forty original recordings. Throughout the years he has perfected the art of storytelling. All attendees hung on to every word he said and laughter was heard throughout the building.
