Memorial Day Service

Everyone is invited to attend the Memorial Day Service that will conduct by members of the West Georgia Veterans Council at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 29, 2017. The service this year will be held at Shadowlawn Cemetery, in the 100 block of New Franklin Rd., LaGrange, GA. Our speaker this year will be Lt Col. Ruben A. Martinez, USMC, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Detachment, The Maneuver Center of Excellence, Fort Benning, GA.

Memorial Day represents one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values. While we should honor these heroes every day for the profound contribution they have made in securing our Nation’s freedom, we should honor them especially on Memorial Day.

A copy of our Memorial Day Service agenda is attached.

In those years when the Memorial Day Service is not conducted at Restlawn Memory Gardens, members of the Veterans Council move to that location to place a Wreath on the grave of S/Sgt. Hammett L. Bowen, Jr. who received the Medal of Honor while serving in Vietnam. Everyone is invited to join us at that location.

Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery arranges for the flags at their location.

We invite individuals and families to join us as we put out flags Sunday, May 28, 2017 at: Shadowlawn Cemetery, 100 block New Franklin Rd.. Flags will be available from 1:00 PM.

Southview Cemetery, 1421 Hamilton Rd.. Flags will be available from 1:00 PM.

Please JOIN US at one of the above locations when and if you can.

West Georgia Veterans Council members will place the Flags at Meadoway Gardens.

We use inscriptions on the gravestones and marker provided by the Veterans Administration to identify the grave of a veteran. Without such an indicator, we will not know that a FLAG should be placed to honor a veteran.
