Pereira and Deloach named 2017 NAIA Tennis All-Americans

WALESKA, GA — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2017 Men’s Tennis All- America teams on Tuesday, May 23. Honorees were selected by the NAIA All-America committee, with 16 and 17 student-athletes being named to both the first and second teams.

Reinhardt University’s men’s tennis team had two student-athletes named as NAIAAll-Americans. Fabio Pereira was named as a second team All-American, and Emory Deloach received honorable mention honors.

Pereira, the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year, went 11-4 at the top line of singles play during the regular season for Reinhardt. Teaming with Emory Deloach at the top doubles line, Pereira was undefeated in doubles play as the duo went 15-0 during the season, defeating ranked doubles teams in the process. In the postseason, Pereira would be the one to clinch the AAC Championship for the Eagles, winning the third and final set, 7-5, in the final set of the tournament. Pereira was also named a 2017 Daktronics- NAIA Scholar Athlete.

Emory Deloach joined Pereira as a First Team All-AAC honoree. In addition to his unblemished doubles record, Deloach went 12-3 during singles play this season, primarily playing at line four of singles.

Coach Kenny Moore, Emory Deloach’s coach from La- Grange High School, expressed how proud he and LHS as a whole are of Deloach’s accomplishments. “Emory is one of our special players. He started as a young kid at our tennis center and continued to grow. He is one of the best tennis players that has come through here and we are proud of his accomplishments.”
