Deputies Arrest Burglary Suspect

Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators have arrested an Alabama man on multiple felony charges after he allegedly burglarized a storage barn in West Troup County.

Sheriff’s Investigators say they have been looking into the suspect, Gregory Dakota Moon, of Roanoke, AL, for quite some time, but recently got a break in the case after uncovering evidence that he broke into a storage barn around June 4. During the alleged incident, Moon is believed to have stolen various tools and other undescribed knickknacks.

Sheriff’s Deputies were later called out to a construction site on Fling Road in reference to Moon illegally entering the property.

The complainant stated he repeatedly told Moon to stay off of the construction site, but he returned several times. During the final time that Moon was caught on the property, the complainant made it clear that he was calling law enforcement, so Moon fled from the scene into the woods saying, “please don’t call police.”

Deputies showed the complainant a previous booking photo and he confirmed that Moon was the subject who had been repeatedly seen on the construction site over the past several days. Deputies then searched the immediate area, but were unable to locate Moon.

Deputies later spotted Moon being dropped off by pickup truck at the Discount Grocery store on Pyne Road. Deputies then attempted to make contact with Moon, but he immediately fled back into the woods. A short time later, deputies located Moon walking through the woods, but he once again took off running. Moon was then taken into custody after a brief chase.

During the subsequent investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators determined that Moon had not only committed the June 4 burglary, but they suspect that he also stole a four-wheeler from a location on Pyne Road on June 12.

Sheriff’s Investigators say Moon is still under investigation for several other crimes and charges from these incidents are pending.

Moon, age 21, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Burglary, Theft – Vehicle, Criminal Trespass, and Obstruction of Officers.

As of press time, Moon is being held at the Troup County Jail on $8,000 bond.
