Purse Thief Not So Swift
Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office have arrested an older teen on a felony theft charge after he made one simple critical mistake.
Earlier this week Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies began investigating an Entering Auto theft where the victim reported having her purse stolen out of an unsecured vehicle at a location in Troup County. The purse was stolen during several other suspected Entering Autos attempts on vehicles that were parked near a lake access area in West Troup County.
Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators then began looking into the incidents and deputies were not immediately able to locate or identify any potential suspects. Fortunately, the stolen purse was later recovered at a separate location and the purse was found to contain an identification card which did not belong to the victim.
Sheriff’s Investigators then located and made contact with the subject whose ID was found in the purse and questioned him about the theft.
The suspect, Khaliq Swift, later confessed to the theft and admitted that he entered the unlocked vehicle and took the purse.
As a result, Swift, age 19, was arrested and booked into the Troup Counly Jail charged with one count of Entering Auto Theft.
Sheriff’s Investigators believe Swift was working with other suspects during the alleged Entering Autos and additional arrests and charges are pending.
As of press time, Swift is being held at the Troup County Jail on $5,000 bond.
