Dunham’s Officially Opens at the LaGrange Mall with Ribbon Cutting

It is no secret to anyone in the community just how quickly LaGrange/Troup County is expanding. Between hotels, a lodge, an amphitheater, and many other projects, the explosion of growth is evident from every corner and aspect. One of the main sectors that are experiencing growth here in the community is in the world of retail and shopping. This past Friday morning, August 18th, a new and highly anticipated box retail store made its grand opening when Dunham’s hosted a ribbon cutting that several in the community attended.

Back in 1937, Dunham’s Bait and Tackle opened in the Michigan region and has grown to over 200 stores and is in as many as 20 states across the U.S. Here in Georgia, this is the third location for a Dunham’s and with come some incredible merchandise at affordable prices. The community turned out in droves to come and line up to start looking at the incredible selection and be a part of this momentous occasion. The following is a statement from the city of La-Grange on that morning’s event: “Dunham’s Sports started its grand opening celebration this morning. Dozens of customers lined up for the grand opening celebration. The first 100 adults in line this morning received a free Dunham’s Sports tshirt. [On that day] only, there are free 6-packs of Coke or Diet Coke to anyone making at least a $10 purchase, while supplies last.

LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton, City Council Members Nick Woodson, Norma Tucker, LeGree McCamey, and Mark Mitchell were on hand to be a part of the ribbon cutting this morning.

‘If you go around the country, there are lots of malls where big box retailers and stores are closing and they sit empty,” said Mayor Thornton. “But that’s not happening in LaGrange.’ Thornton says because of the partnership with the owners of LaGrange Mall, the Hull Group, The City of LaGrange, Troup County, and the Troup County School System, and Dunham’s Sports – the empty 50,000 square foot space that was once J.C. Penny’s is now filled with a great store for the community.

‘This wonderful lowpriced merchandise will truly appeal to the residents of LaGrange and we’re also excited that you’ll soon have a neighbor that will fill 60,000 square feet of space, a Hobby Lobby right next door.’ ‘We are excited to be opening a store in the La-Grange community,’ said Jeff Lynn, chairman and chief executive officer of Dunham’s Athleisure Corporation.

‘Dunham’s prides itself on providing our customers with a wide variety of topquality, value- oriented, name-brand merchandise at everyday low prices.’ The opening of the La-Grange location is the third Dunham’s Sports in the state of Georgia and marks over 225 stores chain wide.

The Dunham’s Sports grand opening celebration continues all weekend long. The first 100 adults in line on Saturday will receive a free Dunham’s Sports baseball cap. The first 100 adults in line on Sunday will receive a free Dunham’s Sports gift card, one being worth $500.
