Softball Rivals Play Another Game Down To The Wire

Certainly the game had a little bit of everything.

In some ways it was a typical Troup High-LaGrange girls softball game. There were a lot of highs and lows as LaGrange High topped the Lady Tigers, 6-5 on Tuesday night at the Troup High softball diamond.

“This was nerve-wracking,” said Troup High senior catcher Maddie Weathers, who took the Region 5AAAA loss very hard.

Lady Tigers head coach Mason Brackett was in a similar post-game mood.

“I’ve been better, but we had a great crowd. The atmosphere was about as good as you can get for a softball game,” said Brackett.

He just wishes his girls could have nailed this one down. The Lady Tigers are 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the region. LaGrange High is 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in region play.

Both teams played all out. It wasn’t always pretty, though. The Lady Grangers made six errors and still won the game. Troup High had a hard time getting a grip on the ball, too, at times.

“We made some mental errors and stupid mistakes. We wanted to win, but everyone got nervous,” said Weathers.

The Lady Tigers still came within one hit from winning on this softball night at Troup High. The Lady Tigers managed six hits and five runs off of LaGrange High pitching ace Camden Smith. She had three strikeouts.

And Troup High came ever so close to winning with two hits from junior shortstop Kayla Lane and one hit each from Abby Taylor, Mc-Cartney, Christina Garcia and Emilee Johnson.

“We hit the ball, and we made some plays. We just didn’t make enough of them,” said Brackett.

What LaGrange High had that the Lady Tigers didn’t were more hits and more runs. They went hand-in-hand for the Lady Grangers, who garnered eight hits off of Troup High senior righthanded pitcher Abby Taylor.

LaGrange High also got a steal of home from freshman Malone Aldridge in the top of the sixth inning. Six girls got into the hit column in the game for La-Grange High with Kayelynn Mobley, Aldridge, Smith, Abby Vanhoose, first baseman Jacee Marable and senior center fielder Shaq Sutton.

Mobley and Aldridge led the Lady Grangers with two hits each. Both girls had extra base hits in the game with a Mobley double and an Aldridge triple. Both girls also singled on the night.

Sophomore third baseman Skye Loftin of Troup High has her game face on during the Lady Tiger-Lady Granger softball contest on Tuesday night.

Lady Granger freshman pitcher Camden Smith had a solid 6-hit performance against Troup High on Tuesday evening in a Region 5 AAAA softball game at THS.
