Nurse Punched in the Face over Toothache

Police have arrested a man for Battery after he allegedly punched a female nurse at the hospital because they were taking too long to get him some medicine for his toothache.

Monday night about 8:30 p.m., officers with the La-Grange Department responded to the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center on Vernon Road in reference to an assault where a patient reportedly attacked a nurse.

Police arrived and spoke to hospital security, who already had the patient, Mickey Jackson Jr., detained in handcuffs outside of the emergency room. Officers then spoke to the victim, a triage nurse, who stated she had just called a patient to go see a doctor when Jackson then walked up to the door and told her that he was just here for a toothache and demanded to be seen by a doctor now.

The nurse stated she told him to go sit back down and wait his turn, but he responded by striking her in the face with a partially closed fist.

Another patient saw what happened, so he intervened and held Jackson away from the nurse until security could arrive, who then detained Jackson.

Police say the nurse had a visible injury on the right side of her face as a result of the assault.

The witness advised police that he saw Jackson hit the nurse, so he got between the two and told Jackson not to hit the female again. Security then arrived and took Jackson away.

Jackson was then arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he later admitted to punching the female nurse in the face because he was upset over how long it was taking to get his medicine for his toothache.

As a result, Jackson, age 36, was booked into the Troup County Jail charged with Misdemeanor Battery.

Jackson was later released from the jail on bond.
