Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators have arrested a man on several charges after he was found in possession of numerous documents from an alleged check fraud and identity theft scheme.
The investigation began on September 3, when Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators were asked by Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol to assist with a suspicious vehicle.
State Troopers stopped a vehicle driven by Daniel Carmelo Bonanno, of Canton, and over the course of the subsequent investigation, numerous items related to manufacturing false identification cards, fraudulent checks and tax documents were found in his car.
Troopers requested assistance from Sheriff’s Investigator’s regarding this case and as a result of the investigation they arrested Bonanno for several Identity Fraud offenses.
Bonanno, age 34, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Identity Fraud, Second Degree Forgery, and Negotiating Fraudulent Checks.
Bonanno was later released from the Troup County Jail on bond.
This incident is still under investigation by the Troup County Sheriff’ s Office Criminal Investigation Department.
