Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators have arrested a convicted felon for the theft of several guns and other items from a local residence.
The investigation began on Friday September 22, when Investigators and Patrol Deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to Beaumont Lane off of West Point Road upon reports of a burglary.
Investigators were informed that guns and other valuable items had been taken from the home just outside of LaGrange.
Over the next few days, Sheriff’s Investigators developed evidence indicating that, William Lee Shepard, of LaGrange, was responsible for theft. Investigators say Shepard illegally entered the home and stole three firearms and other valuables.
Shepard was previously convicted of Aggravated Battery and Robbery in Meriwether County, but was paroled after serving six years of a 20 year sentence in 2014.
As result of the investigation, Shepard, age 34, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with First Degree Burglary (Felony) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Shepard is currently being held at the Troup County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
Investigators were able to recover numerous items allegedly stolen by Shepard and returned to them to the victim.
