Kirby Smart: The Right Man For The Job At Georgia

After a little less than two years on the job, Georgia has learned plenty from Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart.

We now know, without a doubt, that the 41-yearold Smart is the right man to lead the Bulldog football program. Smart has brought energy and humility to Athens. Smart has instilled confidence and a still evolving work ethic in the tradition of the old Junkyard Dogs under Vince Dooley and Erk Russell.

So the new Dogs have met the old guard. What comes around, goes around. Under Smart, Georgia is getting back to the basics like running the bleachers at Sanford Stadium and playing a dominating style of football down in the trenches on offense and defense.

Smart is showing some savvy and the ability to put together a championship level coaching staff. Smart is an organizer, a role model, a leader and a big brother. In slightly less than two seasons at UGA, Smart has built a team chemistry that hasn’t been seen in Athens since the days of Herschel Walker, Lindsey Scott, Buck Belue, Dooley and the late and great defensive genius and motivator, Russell, the ballheaded man and former Marine veteran.

Under the new regime, Georgia is getting back to basics – respecting your opponent and beating your opponent with a smile on your face. The Dogs are winning this year with talent, hard work and blood on the carpet.

Georgia is dropping the hammer on their SEC brothers. Thank you very much. The Bulldogs are winning with excess and gusto. Georgia is enjoying every punishing moment on the football Saturdays. Smart, the man who gets paid $3.75 million a year, is turning into one of the best young coaches in the college game. Georgia is winning on the field and off the field. Smart is teaching football etiquette in between the mammoth runs between the tackles. The still new Georgia football coach has brought a breath of fresh air to the Bulldog program.

The hairy Dogs are a Top 10 team under Smart. All that Georgia wants to do is keep on winning and keep on learning from the head Bulldog. Smart is even-keeled off the field and high strung on the field.

Kirby Smart is in Athens to build, not rebuild. Smart has already turned the Dogs from good to better, having done that since being hired by UGA on Dec. 6, 2015.

Georgia has come a long way in the past two years with Smart running the show, and the Bulldogs still have not reached the pinnacle. Their next goal is the Eastern Division championship in the SEC, and that has been Florida’s domain the last two seasons. The low lying reptiles from Gatorland won the Eastern Division football title in 2015 and 2016.

But Georgia and Smart are nipping at Florida’s heels this season. And the Bulldogs are close to beating “the man.” To be the man, you have to beat “the man.”

Georgia is on the prowl for that SEC Eastern Division crown and maybe even a conference championship after that. Watch out, Alabama.

The Georgia Bulldogs are playing some Smart football, absolutely. And the Dogs are getting better and louder by the game. Kirby Smart is certainly in the right place at the right time. Georgia has something special going on in Athens, thanks to Smart, the former Bulldog defensive backfield bandito (13 career interceptions).
