The LaGrange High School Band currently highlights 142 students of various musical talents supporting and cheering on the Granger nation.
However, according to Dr. Jarrett Farrell, band director for LHS, “It has taken a team effort to build our marching band program to the family we are today.” When Dr. Farrell moved to La-Grange, the band consisted of 23 students. Dr. Farrell recognized changes needed to be made and recruitment was immediately set into action. Thus, in addition to Dr. Farrell, band members began “knocking on doors” to upcoming high school freshman. “Our group was committed to do whatever it took to get bodies in the band. We worked very hard to get an identity as a band program. With the understanding to be based on we are all in this together.”
The marching band performances are spearheaded by the current junior class and will be performed throughout their senior year. The theme for this year is “I want my MTV.” The focus is on songs that won MTV video awards. Each performance includes vocalists, solos, and ensembles.
The goal of the band is to have fun and entertain the audience. The students say, “Our band is like family. We feel connected and belong to it.”
What a team effort from 23 members to 142 members strong!
