This past week end, Friday, November 17th to be exact, was a day of many emotions for students and players in the Troup County School System. After weeks of rigorous games, combining with deadlines for school projects, two of our teams here in LaGrange and Troup County met in playoff competition in out of town games on Friday night. Troup High School was in the bracket for the 2017 Georgia High School Football Playoffs (GHSA) AAAA tournament while Callaway tried their hand at the AA tournament. While Callaway would take home a win, Troup would suffer a loss, even though both teams played exceptionally well.
The Callaway High School Cavilers would make their way to Rockmart this weekend to take on the Rockmart Yellowjackets in a 2nd round game of the playoffs. The game started hot, with Callaway putting up 7 in the first quarter to Rockmart’s 14. The Cavaliers exploded in the 2nd quarter, putting up 21 points on the board. Followed by two more touchdowns, one in the third quarter and one in the forth, Callaway took home the win with a score of 40-35. With this win, Callaway will head to the third round of playoffs next weekend when they take on Brooks County for a spot in the final four. Both of those teams stand with one loss, making a game that’s not to be missed.
Also this past Friday night, The Troup High School Tigers made their way to Atlanta for a show down with the St. Pius X Catholic school team. This was also a second round playoff game. Troup played well in the first half of the game, putting up 7 in the first quarter and 21 in the second. However, with only one touchdown in the third and no points in the fourth, they were not able to hold off the Golden Lions, with St. Pius edging them out with a score of 43-35. This was a tough loss for the Tigers but the team played excellent all season, with a record of 9 and 3.
