Woman Struck with Hammer During Robbery at Walmart

LaGrange Police are investigating a Robbery and Assault that occurred early Saturday morning at the Walmart on New Franklin Road. A 65-year-old female employee was reportedly struck in the head with a hammer after she walked up on a theft in progress.

According to police, the female Walmart employee walked into the electronics section around 4:40 a.m. Saturday morning and discovered that two male subjects had smashed the glass on a cell phone display counter and were stealing the contents.

The older woman then attempted to stop the burglary, but was attacked for her efforts and struck in the head with a hammer.

Security video showed the suspects then escaped out of a nearby emergency exit and into a waiting red or maroon four-door sedan with an undisclosed amount of merchandise.

Police say the female sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center by a co-worker after she was checked out by Fire Department paramedics. Officers searched the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the vehicle or the suspects.

The suspects were described as black males in their mid 20s. Both males were last seen wearing black hooded sweatshirts and jeans. This incident is still under investigation by the LaGrange Police Department Criminal Investigation Section.
