The Gift of the Magi Set to Open at New Horizon Theatre in West Point this December

The Gifts of the Magi is a musical celebrating two short stories by O. Henry, bringing together the unforgettable characters that filled both “The Gift of the Magi” and “The Cop and the Anthem.”

It is Christmas, 1905, in New York. While vagabond Soapy Smith (Zeke Weldon) desperately tries to get himself arrested so he can enjoy his winter in warm lodgings, the prospects are bleak for Jim (Monico Garcia) and Della (Jayde Singer) Dillingham as both are out of work and penniless. But as those familiar with the famous O. Henry story are aware, each sacrifices what he prizes most to realize their even greater love: each other. Woven together by young newsgirl Willy Porter (Liberty Jewel) against the backdrop of a bustling New York played by City Her (Malerie Goodman) and City Him (Tony Peregoy), The Gifts of the Magi is a timeless American Carol to the Christmas spirit within us all. “Not by things, but the love one brings comes the gift of Christmas.”

Gifts of the Magi will be presented at New Horizon Theatre in West Point and is under the direction of Bill Nixon. Music Director is Tonya Frank, Technical Director is James Alsobrook, and Accompaniment is by Gail Douglas.

Performance dates and times are: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; December 14–16; at 8:00 PM with an additional 2:00 PM matinee on Saturday, December 16.
