Deputies Looking for Escaped Convict

Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently asking for help in locating a man wanted for Felony Escape.

Deputies say William Luther Maggart walked off of his Lee’s Crossing job and failed to report back to Troup County Work Release on Friday, December 8.

Maggart was part of the work release program while serving time at the Troup County Jail for Probation Violation.

The work release program allows minor offenders to continue working locally while serving out their court ordered sentences. The participants in the program are generally not considered to be violent or a flight risk.

Similar programs are used throughout Georgia and the United States, because they allow inmates to continue earning money for their families and to contribute to society while serving their punishment.

Unfortunately, they sometimes allow for escapes. These escapes are typically brief. The temporary freedom ends up getting escapees into far more trouble.

Sheriff’s Investigators are asking anyone who spots Maggart to please contact them immediately.

Maggart is described as 6feet-tall, weighing about 140 pounds.

If anyone has any further information about the current whereabouts Maggart, please contact Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators at 706-883-1616 or the Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.

Information leading to the arrest of wanted suspects is often eligible for a cash reward.
