2018 is here. This is the year that everyone has been talking about around the city of LaGrange and all of Troup County. All of the progress, change, and new additions to the community will happen this year, with the next stage of evolution taking place all this year. In the next decade or so, everyone could look back and see that 2018 was the year that it all began. So how did we begin this incredible year? With a ribbon cutting from Hobby Lobby of course, one of the biggest retail chains around the country that has now found its way to our community. Despite the freezing temperatures at the start of the new year, many officials from the city, the county, and several others came out in support as the ribbon was cut, signifying a new beginning for business in La- Grange and Troup County.
It’s 1972 in Oklahoma City. A man by the name of David Green opens the first ever Hobby Lobby, with a second store followed soon thereafter. The chain continued to grow and spread, with over 600 stores as of 2015. It is a unique, one of a kind store that deals in arts and craft materials, home décor, and many other seasonal items. You can find essentially any and everything you could ever want for your home within its walls. Now the citizens on LaGrange and Troup County will have access to these items as opposed to traveling to Columbus or somewhere else. It is another step in the business and retail growth expected county wide over the coming years.
The following is a statement from the city of La-Grange on the opening of the new Hobby Lobby: “Hobby Lobby in La-Grange is now open for business. It opened Friday, December 29th at 9AM. It held its grand opening January 1st at 9AM. Hobby Lobby is a privately held national retail chain of craft and home décor stores. The LaGrange store is Hobby Lobby’s 41st location in Georgia. Tory Faulk is the store manager of the 55,000 square-foot retail facility located at Lafayette Parkway and Davis Road, in the La-Grange Mall.
“We are blessed for the fantastic opportunity to be a part of the LaGrange community,” stated Kelly Black, Director of Advertising. “Our goal is for customers to experience the exceptional service, selection, and value Hobby Lobby offers.”
Hobby Lobby has over 750 stores across the nation. Each store offers more than 70,000 crafting and home décor products including floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies.
Regular business hours are Monday through Saturday from 9AM-8PM. Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.
Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., an Oklahoma City based private corporation, began as Greco, a miniature picture frame company in 1970. David Green moved his business from the family home to a 300 square-foot retail space in 1972, where Hobby Lobby was born. It is the nation’s largest privately-owned arts and crafts retailer.
