LaGrange Police are working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate human remains found deep in a wooded area within the city.
The remains were found by an ATV rider and reported to police Thursday evening.
The decomposed remains were found in the woods between Fulton Street and Hogansville Road. Police suspect that that the remains were from an adult, but they say it’s too early to confirm.
The initial investigation has not led police to suspect foul play.
Lt. Dale Strickland says they will be further investigating the area where the remains were found now that they have the benefit of sunlight.
The remains are being sent to the GBI crime lab for further examination. Authorities hope to be able to make a positive identification of the remains and possibly determine a cause of death. The remains were in bad condition, so determining a cause of death could be problematic.
Police say this investigation is still in its initial stages and much more work needs to be done before any concrete determinations can be made.
