Entering Auto Suspect Tracked with Stolen Phone

LaGrange Police have arrested an alleged repeat Entering Auto Theft offender who was caught with stolen items from a vehicle during a local sting operation over the weekend.

Police arrested Michael Deangelo McCamey after GPS tracking helped officers recover a cell phone and other items stolen during the incident.

The purloined cell phone lead officers right to Mc-Camey’s location inside a Dix Street residence on Friday night.

McCamey was immediately arrested after an alarm went off on the phone went off and he was found with the phone red handed.

Police also recovered a $20 bill that was confirmed to have stolen from inside a purse, along with the cell phone.

The items were reportedly stolen from a vehicle in the area of Dix Street near Johnson Street. Police searched the vehicle and found items strewn out of a woman’s handbag and wallet.

As a result of the investigation, McCamey, age 47, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Theft by Entering Auto. Police note that McCamey is known to them as frequent Entering Auto offender in the community. McCamey reportedly has three Entering Auto charges since 2011.

McCamey is currently being held at the Troup County Jail on $100,000 bond.
