This past Saturday night, January 20th, it was time to break out the dresses, the crowns, and the winning smiles for the annual Miss Troup County and Miss Troup County’s Outstanding Teen pageant. The auditorium at Troup High School was filled with many parents and supporters as the ladies prepared to take the stage for the evening’s competition. Five young ladies prepared for competition in the teen category while there were 15 hopefuls in the Miss Troup County Pageant. By the end of the night, there would be two new crowns given out.
The pageant had several parts with performances, important questions, and competitions all around. The categories included question and answer, talent, and fitness wear for the teens and swim suit for the Miss Troup County contestants. They all had a chance to wear their beautiful designed ball gowns in the evening wear section. There were also many performances from some of last year’s winners and all of them were able to say some parting words before walking the stage one last time.
Finally, after the tally of the judges, it was time for the big moment and the reveal. Miss Troup County’s Outstanding Teen was awarded to Rebecca Zhang, an eighth grade student from John’s Creek. The new Miss Troup County went to Lizzy Stanford, a student at the University of Georgia. Both of the winners received their crowns and their sashes, along with a bouquet of flowers. Both of the winners are very talented in the art of dance and will go on to the Miss Georgia pageant later this year in June.
The Miss Troup County and the Miss Troup County Outstanding Teen competition is hosted each year by the Miss Troup County Scholarship Board that awards scholarship funds to the winners and runner ups each year. There are also several partners and sponsors each year for the competition including Judy Neighbors, the pageant’s organizer. There is also a list of people behind the scenes that makes the competition possible each and every year. Both Stanford and Zhang will begin to prepare for the next stage of pageants in the summer and will undoubtedly represent Troup County excellently in the coming months.
