Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike Coming to LSPA

The Lafayette Theatre Company will open Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike on January 25th. Winner of the 2013 Tony Award® for Best Play, this production promises to provide hilarious entertainment for adult audiences in LTC’s unique picnic-style theatre setting.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is one of the most lauded and beloved Broadway plays of recent years. Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia live a quiet life in the Pennsylvania farmhouse where they grew up, but their peace is disturbed when their movie star sister Masha returns, unannounced, with her twenty-something “boy toy,” Spike. A weekend of rivalry, regret, and raucousness begins. This play does contain mature content and language and may be inappropriate for younger audiences.

The show’s director, Jeff Sargent, shares “I fell in love with this show several years ago when I saw it performed by the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre. Having read a lot of Durang, I think this is his best work. Durang writing puts the ‘fun’ in family dysfunctional.”

The Lafayette Theatre Company’s Black Box Picnic Theatre allows guests to provide their own food and drinks for a meal before and during the show. A cash bar is also available prior to the start of the show and during intermission. Kimberly-Clark, Duracell, and Pediatrics Associates of LaGrange, P.C. generously sponsor Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Show times are 7:30pm on January 25th, 26st, 27th and February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There is also a Sunday matinee on January 28th at 3pm. The house opens one hour before the show begins, so that guests can have time to enjoy their meal prior to the show. Individual tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students, with season tickets also available. Reserved seating is available for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and tickets can be purchased online at LSPARTS .org, by visiting the LSPA offices at 214 Bull Street in downtown LaGrange, or by calling 706-882-9909.
