LaGrange Police are investigating an incident where a man was shot in the leg in Downtown LaGrange on Saturday.
Police responded to the incident around 1:40 a.m. near 86’d Bar on Main Street. Police were called to the area upon reports of a large fight and gunshots being fired.
Over the course of the investigation, police learned that a man had shot another male during a fight that occurred outside the bar near the parking lot. The male suspect then fled the scene.
The undisclosed victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was treated at the scene by paramedics, but was ultimately transported to the West Georgia Medical Center for further treatment for the non-lifethreatening injuries.
A female also received an injury to her hand during the incident, but she refused treatment.
Police believe the victim was trying to intervene in an argument between a man and a woman that became physical.
Police say numerous people appeared to be involved in the fight, but when officers arrived most of them fled the scene.
Two women were also arrested on separate charges stemming from the incident. The women, identified as Ruth Waldrop and Angela Smith, were reportedly using profane language and attempting to fight during the incident. Waldrop and Smith were asked to calm down and stop creating a public disturbance, but continued to cause a disturbance and were placed under arrest. Waldrop, age 38, and Smith, age 30, were arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where they were booked into the jail and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness.
