LaGrange Police have arrested local woman for two counts of Aggravated Assault after she allegedly attacked two men with a knife during a domestic incident.
Tuesday night about 7:53 p.m., officers with the La-Grange Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Whitesville Street in reference to a person stabbed. Officers arrived and learned that the male victim had allegedly been cut by his wife, June Carrell Shelander, who had already left the scene.
The victim told police that he was visiting Shelander at her residence when they got into an argument over her alleged illegal drug use. The male stated Shelander began striking him with her fists in an attempt to get him to hit her back, but he refused to engage in a physical altercation. He stated she then picked up a kitchen knife and began trying to cut him with it.
The victim stated he attempted to avoid the knife, but at some point Shelander cut him on the palm of his right hand.
Another male who witnessed the incident, attempted to get the knife away from Shelander was also cut in the process. The victim stated Shelander intentionally cut him on the hand as well.
The victim stated Shelander then left and he walked to a nearby relative’s house to receive first aid and to call 911.
Police say the victim had blood stains all over his shirt and pants, and his hand was wrapped in a towel that was soaked with blood. Further investigation revealed a 4 inch long deep laceration to the palm of his hand.
The victim was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center by paramedics for further treatment.
Shelander was later located by additional officers and taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Shelander, age 36, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where she was booked into jail charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Knife.
Shelander is currently being held at the Troup County Jail where she was denied bond.
