First United Methodist Church of LaGrange Hosts Valdez Brothers

First United Methodist Church of LaGrange held its monthly Thursday Lunch Club (TLC) this past Thursday, February 1st. As always, the church provided a delicious, family-style meal. After plates of roast beef and vegetables had been passed around each table, everyone settled in to enjoy fellowshipping before the presentations began.

The presentations began with discussion of upcoming events and some recognitions, then it was time to celebrate February birthdays. At every Thursday Lunch Club, attendees with birthdays in the meeting month get to enjoy cupcakes. Jake Behr was then ready to announce the door-prize winners. This month’s door prizes were donated by Stephen’s Exclusives, a gift store and Pandora Jewelry retailer in downtown LaGrange. Winners received a $20 gift certificate to Stephen’s Exclusives.

Mr. Behr then introduced the Valdez Brothers, who would be performing for the Thursday Lunch Clubgoers that afternoon. Twin brothers, Carlos and Alan Valdez, had been performing for quite a while, and this wasn’t their first time performing at First United Methodist. The Valdez brothers were homeschooled by their mother and grandmother, and now attend LaGrange College. When applying to LaGrange, both Alan and Carlos were recipients of the Diverse Power Foundation Scholarship. Carlos is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar, while Alan is studying Pre-Physical Therapy with a minor in Music. Both Valdez brothers are not only practiced musicians, but have also been avid tennis players from a very young age. They both continue their tennis careers and are members of the LaGrange College tennis team.

Carlos and Alan treated the TLC to some beautiful bluegrass tunes on guitar and violin that afternoon. They enjoy performing for churches and using their talents for the Lord.

The TLC meets the first Thursday of every month. If you are interested in attending the next Thursday Lunch Club you can contact the church office at 706-884-4635. The TLC asks that you make reservations by calling the church office the Monday prior to the Thursday Luncheon.
