Kidnapping Suspect Extradited Back to Kentucky

A suspect wanted for kidnapping, robbery, and auto theft is headed back to Kentucky after he was located in LaGrange.

Kyle E. Smith was picked up Thursday morning to be extradited back to Kentucky on charges stemming from an alleged incident several states away.

Smith is accused of kidnapping a woman in Boyle County, Kentucky on February 5. Police say the victim was dropping her kids off at day care when Smith assaulted her and dragged her into a van.

Smith allegedly threatened to kill the female and forced her to drive the van, but she managed to escape by jumping from a moving vehicle on a highway in Kentucky.

The van, a green Mercury Villager, was later found on fire in the woods in Troup County, so police began to search locally for Smith.

Smith turned himself into the Troup County Jail shortly afterwards.

The Mercury Villager was found in the woods on February 7 around 1:20 a.m. near Jones Street Park.

Authorities say Smith, age 22, will be charged with Kidnapping, Robbery, and Auto Theft. Additional charges are likely.

Smith was picked up by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office Thursday morning around 8:15 a.m.
