Truck Driver Fights Off Teenage Robbers

LaGrange Police are investigating an incident where a truck driver was robbed by a group of teens on LaFayette Parkway.

Early Sunday morning about 12:22 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to Rodeway Inn on LaFayette Parkway in reference to an Armed Robbery.

Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, a tractor trailer truck driver, who stated he had been robbed by a group of teens.

The victim explained that he was staying at the Rodeway Inn, so he walked to Applebee’s to eat. Once he left the restaurant, he began walking to the Marathon gas station and a small white sedan stopped and asked him if he needed a ride, but he told them no.

He later saw the same vehicle again at Marathon. The occupants asked him again if he needed a ride and this time he told them that they could give him a ride.

The victim told police that he thought they were just teenagers trying to make some money, so he gave them $5 for the ride.

The victim stated they brought him to his truck and once he got out of the vehicle, he heard the trunk open so he placed his wallet and phone in his truck. When he turned around the suspects had a handgun pointed at him. A female in the group then asked him how much money he had and she went through his pockets.

The victim stated he then struck one of the males and began to try and intimidate them because they were much younger. The assailants then got back into their vehicle and fled west on LaFayette Parkway.

The victim stated there were four males and one female in the vehicle.

The suspects did not get any property from the victim.

This incident is still under investigation by the La-Grange Police Department Criminal Investigation Section.
