The bases were hot this past Thursday night, February 22nd, as the Troup High School Tigers went down the road to take on the Callaway High School Cavaliers. Troup has been off to an incredible start this year and has a stellar program with years to grow. Callaway is off to a hot start as well, coming into this game with a record of 4-1, with their only loss coming from Westminister. The two dominate teams took to the field for an exciting hometown game where by the end, the tigers would sweep the cavaliers with a score of 4-0.
The pitching that night was the name of the game, with the teams putting up impressive stats. Garrett Casey handed in a stellar performance for his six innings, with not hits and a lot of strikeouts. After the sixth, Colby Williams took over on the mound and continued the strikeouts. This was Casey’s second start of the season. Chandler Lott and Walt Stewart were on the mound for Callaway. Troup would keep the pressure on, scoring two run early and two runs later in the game. This confidently brought home their shutout and moved their season to 5 and 0, with Callaway falling to 4 and 2.
The seasons continue to roll for both teams in the coming weeks. Troup will take on the 2 and 0 Upson-Lee Knights on Tuesday night, March 27th. For the Cavaliers, they have two upcoming games, one against Shaw and the other against Upson-Lee before they take on LaGrange High School next week. Both Troup and Callaway are still looking strong in the conference and have steady schedules ahead of them.
