Armed Duo Arrested with Bevy of Pharmaceuticals

Police have arrested a pair of men on a multitude of drug charges stemming from a late night traffic stop for an equipment violation.

Early Friday morning about 1:46 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department were patrolling the area of Panther Way when police observed a grey Pontiac Grand Prix with no operable taillights.

A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle and officers made contact with the driver, Gary Wayne Whitt Jr., and his passenger, Michael Joe Allen.

While speaking with the occupants, officers observed an odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle. The subjects denied anything illegal being in the vehicle, so Whitt was asked to step out of the Pontiac and talk with officers.

Whitt then agreed to a search of his person, which revealed a syringe in his pants pocket. Whitt claimed that the syringe belonged to his diabetic grandmother and he had simply forgotten he had it in his pocket.

Allen was then removed from the vehicle and prior to a consensual search; he admitted that he also had two syringes in his pocket. The search of Allen’s person then revealed a plastic baggie which contained a pill believed to be Hydrocodone, three pills believed to Oxycodone, a broken pill believed to be Alprazolam, another plastic baggie containing a white crystal residue believed to be methamphetamine, and a third plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana.

Police then searched the vehicle and located three syringe caps under both front seats and a pill bottle containing nine pills believed to be Codeine. Whitt later stated the pills belonged to his grandmother.

Officers also located a .380 caliber handgun near the passenger door, which Allen claimed.

A glass smoking pipe and set of black digital scales were also found within the vehicle, but neither suspect was willing to claim them.

As a result of the investigation, both Whitt and Allen were arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where they were booked into the jail on various drug charges.

Whitt, age 34, was charged with Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance, Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.
