Jekyll Jammed: LaGrange High Tennis Breaks Even at Jekyll Island Tournament

The LaGrange High boys’ and girls’ tennis teams traveled to Jekyll Island to participate in last weekend’s annual Jekyll Jam tennis tournament. The teams came home with a 3-3 overall tournament record through three rounds of competition.

The boys’ tennis team served up a particularly strong showing. Finishing 2-1 in tournament play, the team improved their overall season record to 6-2. LaGrange boys’ tennis defeated Columbus 4 -1 in the first round of the Jekyll Jam before losing 3-2 in a close round against Glynn Academy. Showing their resiliency, the Grangers finished strong, closing their tournament play with a 4-1 win over Oconee County.

Jackson Kuerzi of the LaGrange High boys’ tennis team had an especially convincing weekend, going undefeated in matches against all three opponents. Kuerzi’s dominant performance included 6-2, 6-3 victories over Columbus; 6-3, 6-2 victories over Glynn Academy; and 6-1, 6-3 victories over Oconee County.

The girls’ tennis team finished with a 1-2 record in tournament play, bringing their season record to 5-3. The Lady Grangers started strong, routing Columbus en route to a 41 victory. The tide turned in the second round as La-Grange suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Woodward Academy. Lizzie Wilkerson and Kaylee Key accounted for the Lady Granger’s sole win in the second round, defeating Woodward 6-0, 6-4 in doubles. The LaGrange girls tennis team continued to struggle in the third round, losing 4 – 1 to Glynn Academy. Louise Dodson represented the Lady Grangers in her 63, 6-2 defeat of Glynn Academy.

Both LaGrange tennis teams look to improve their already-impressive season records with a win over Central Carrollton Tuesday, March 6th. LaGrange will also be hosting the Granger Invitational Friday, March 9th – Saturday, March 10th.
