Granger Tennis Places in Region Tournament

The LaGrange High boys and girls tennis teams capped off two wonderful seasons with both winning runnerup titles in the Region 5AAAA tournament. Both teams have enjoyed tremendous success this season.

The region tournament started Tuesday, April 10th. Both Granger teams advanced to the championship match against Cartersville the following day.

The Lady Grangers faced off against rival Troup High in the tournament opening. The LaGrange team entered the tournament ranked second in the region with a 13-5 record and sailed past Troup with a 4-0 victory.

In the second round of the tournament, the Lady Grangers defeated Central Carrollton 3-2 to advance to the championship match against Cartersville.

Despite their best efforts, the Lady Grangers were unable to overcome the first-ranked team and stumbled 3-0 in the championship round.

Both Lady Granger doubles teams fought hard to keep the match competitive. Abbi Lynn Lanier and Lizzie Wilkerson kept it close before being pulled in their 6-3, 4-3 losses while Kaylee Key and Ella Eiland were only behind 64, 3-3 when they were pulled.

The LaGrange boys tennis team came into the tournament with an impressive 16-2 record and ranked only behind Carters ville.

The Grangers defeated Sandy Creek 3-0 in round one and Cedartown 4-1 in round two to advance to the championship match against Cartersville.

Like their sister team, the LaGrange boys tennis squad hit a roadblock against the top-ranked foe. Jackson Kuerzi won the only set for the Grangers in their 3-1 championship loss. Kuerzi defeated Will Allen of Cartersville 6-2, 6-0.

While unable to secure a championship win, both Granger teams should be proud of their impressive seasons. LaGrange tennis has commanded respect all season with dominating wins and impressive sportsmanship and now adds a region runner-up title to its legacy.
