Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over a car on the interstate for a simple window-tint violation and ended up making a felony drug-trafficking arrest.
Late Tuesday night about 12:26 a.m., Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies performed a traffic stop on a white Nissan Altima on Interstate 85 southbound near the Whitesville Road exit for a simple window tint violation.
Deputies say the subsequent investigation revealed that one of the passengers in the vehicle, Melvin Charles Morris, was in possession of a large amount of MDMA (Ecstasy).
Approximately one ounce of MDMA was recovered from the vehicle in separate containers. Another of the passengers, Kenneth Alfred Sears, was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Sears was also found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, Morris and Sears were taken into custody for separate drug charges, and the driver was released with a warning for the window tint violation.
Morris, age 34, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Trafficking MDMA and Littering.
Sears, age 32, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked into the jail charged with Possession of Marijuana – Less than an Ounce and Open Container of Alcohol.
The Nissan Altima was transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation and possible drug asset forfeiture procedures.
This case is still under investigation by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.
