Deputies Investigating Attempted Kidnapping

Troup County Sheriff’s Investigators are looking for a man suspected of attempting to kidnap a young girl in Southwest Troup County.

Sunday night about 7:15 p.m., deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Reed Road in reference to reports of a possible attempted kidnapping.

Deputies were informed that an eight-year-old girl was crossing the road when an unknown white male approached the child in a small white four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry. The unknown adult male then reportedly exited the car and attempted to grab the child by the lower portion of her leg.

The child was able to get away, but fell to the ground and screamed. Relatives then rushed to the child, and the suspect left the area.

Deputies were informed that the unknown male told the child that he was coming back for her before leaving the scene in the white vehicle.

The male suspect is described as a white older looking male with long brown hair down to his ears. The hair may have been a wig. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, white pants, and black boots.

According to the victim, the male had “older-looking skin” and no facial hair. He also reportedly appeared to be trying to portray himself as a woman.

The suspect was later seen in the parking lot of the fire department on Reed Road.

Sheriff’s Investigators believe that the suspect vehicle was caught on camera in the area of Reed Road, but they were unable to fully identify the vehicle or tag number. Investigators believe that the suspect’s car was possibly a Toyota Camry and are asking anyone that may have seen the vehicle in the area of Reed Road on Sunday, or anyone who thinks the vehicle looks familiar, to please contact the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Office officials also note that several people have already commented on their Facebook page naming an individual who they suspect may have been involved. Investigators have already interviewed the individual, and they believe he is not responsible for this incident.

Investigators are asking the public to contact them directly at 706-883-1616 with names or relevant information to this case, rather than speculating on social media, as it could hinder the investigation.

Anonymous information can also be submitted to Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000 and if you see something suspicious, do not hesitate to call 911.
