LaGrange Police have arrested a woman on several domestic violence charges after she allegedly rammed her car into her husband’s pickup truck with him in it multiple times and later attacked him at his mother’s home. Sunday morning about 10:50 a.m., officers with the LaGrange Police Department responded to the 500 block of Horace King Street in reference to a domestic incident.
Officers arrived and spoke to the complainant, who reported that he was driving on Johnson Street near Ware Street when his wife, Cassandra Louise Thornton, pulled in behind him in a separate vehicle. She then reportedly began intentionally ramming the rear of his pickup truck with her vehicle.
The victim stated she struck his vehicle multiple times before he was able to get away. She followed him and rammed the rear of his truck at three different intersections with the vehicle she was driving.
Police observed damage consistent with the victim’s story, along with paint transfer believed to have been from Thornton’s vehicle. Thornton’s vehicle also had damage consistent with the incident.
Neither the victim nor Thornton sustained any injuries to themselves from the incident, just their vehicles.
Thornton was later located and arrested during a separate incident after she reportedly showed back up and began causing second disturbance, where she was additionally accused of Simple Battery.
During the second incident, police arrived to find Thornton’s white Chevrolet Malibu parked in the drive way with both doors open. Upon approaching the vehicle, police heard the original victim calling out for help screaming, “Get her off of me!”
Police then saw the victim’s head hanging out of the passenger, and he was being held down by Thornton. Thornton then ignored officer’s commands to get out to the car and let the victim go. She was then taken into custody by force after a brief physical struggle.
The victim explained that Thornton came to his mother’s residence after the previous incident and began yelling at his mother. He then tried to get her out of the residence, but she began hitting him, which continued outside. She then pulled him into the vehicle, at which point police arrived. Multiple witnesses on scene confirmed these statements.
As a result, Thornton, age 45, was arrested and transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office where she was booked into the jail charged with Aggravated Assault with a Vehicle – Family Violence Act, Simple Battery – Family Violence Act, and Obstruction of Officers.
Thornton is currently being held at the Troup County Jail on $21,000 bond.
