Jeffrey Craig Bardes

Jeffrey Craig Bardes, age 62, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Novmeber 4, 2015 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Memorial services were held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Dr. Bob Patterson officiated. Jeff was born August 10, 1953 in Passaic, NJ, the son of Richard E. Bardes, Sr. and Viola Geiss Bardes. He moved with his family to Manchester in 1972 and graduated from Manchester High School that same year. He worked for the archery and accessories manufacturer, Shakespeare in Columbia, SC for several years before returning to Manchester. Jeff was a gifted guitarist and had played in many local rock bands. He had been a member of the band Wicked Dixie for the past 15 years. His other passion was golf and he also enjoyed gardening. Jeff is survived by his wife of 25 years, Edwina Barnes Bardes of Manchester; his mother, Vi Bardes of Manchester; two brothers, Richard E. Bardes, Jr. and his wife, Trudy of Fairfax, VA, Keith Bardes and his wife, Cindy of Flowery Branch, GA; one sister, Kathi Goldberg and her husband, David of Washington, DC and 13 nieces and nephews. Jeff will be remembered for his razor wit, being a stalwart friend and the ability to take the money on the last hole in golf. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Clark, David Foster, Steve Spates, Scott Mayfield, Dale Stinson, Stephen Torbert and Ellis Florence. Annis Marie Cortez

Annis Marie Cortez, age 82, of Cataula, GA, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA. A memorial service was held at 3:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Hamilton with Rev. Andy Taunton officiating. Ms. Cortez was born March 10, 1933 in Huffer, Georgia the daughter of Annie Belle Tomlinson Anderson and Henry Anderson. She was a homemaker most of her life and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cataula. She enjoyed many hobbies especially sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Johnnie J. Cortez. Survivors include her son, Roy (Carrol) Cortez of Cataula; her granddaughters, Heather (Ben) Gibson, Diana (Robert) Papsis, and Victoria Cortez all of Cataula; her great grandson, Aydan Gibson of Cataula; her sisters, Maggie Mauldin and Ora Mae Williams of High Springs, FL; her brother, Dub Anderson of High Springs, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edgar 'Ed' W. Manseau

Edgar “Ed” W. Manseau, age 89, of Pine Mountain Valley, GA died Monday, November 9, 2015 at Columbus Hospice, Columbus, GA. Ed Manseau was born May 21, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of George A. and Susan Gertrude (Hall) Manseau. A WWII veteran, he served his country as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class in the United States Navy on a repair ship in the South Pacific. He was an alumnus of Purdue University, IN, and Georgia Tech. He later worked at IBM in the early computer years, was involved in the Space and Missile program in Florida, and was Deputy Director of the GCIC Division of the GBI in Atlanta, GA for 20 years. An avid and selftaught musician, Ed played a variety of instruments, his favorite the violin and the organ. He served as organist for 12 years at the Lutheran Church of theAscension in Atlanta, GA. He also played in several orchestras, the most recent, LaGrange Symphony Orchestra. He lived in Pine Mountain Valley, GA for the last 20 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Columbus, GA and attended the First United Methodist Church, Pine Mountain, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard G. Manseau and sister, Dorothee Riemer. Married for 67 years, he is survived by his wife Ida Mae Helen Manseau of Pine Mountain Valley; sister Gloria (John) Soneson, Carol Stream, IL; two sons: John A. Manseau of Pine Mountain and David G. (Anne) Manseau of Charlotte, NC; and three daughters: Michele M. (Louis) Hazouri of Pine Mountain Valley, Catherine L. (Bill) John of Lexington, KY, Suzanne M. (Paul) Sims of Chattanooga, TN; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A God-fearing and loving Christian, he never failed to take his family to church and lovingly taught his children the way to live their lives. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial services for Ed Manseau will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Pine Mountain. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in memory of Mr. Edgar W. Manseau to Columbus Hospice and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
