Mrs. Joanne S. Cantrell

Mrs. Joanne Smith Cantrell, age 76, of Wedowee, AL, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL. Mrs. Cantrell was born August 10, 1939, in Randolph County, AL, daughter of the late Bowden Smith and Lula Edmondson Smith Sheppard. A resident of Wedowee for the past 10 years, she lived in Coweta County most of her life and was the retired owner of Mr. C’s Mini Mart and Our Lady’s Rosary Angel Shop, both in Grantville. She was a former Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, was a former member of the Grantville Garden Club, and was a member of St. George Catholic Church. Survivors include her daughters, Nawana Winkles and her fiancée Hiram Massengale of Wedowee, Felicia Doler and her husband J.C. Doler of Grantville; sons, David Cantrell of Roanoke, AL, Randy Cantrell and his wife Sharon Cantrell, of Roanoke; sister and brother in-law, Sybil and Jim Flake of Columbus; brothers and sisters in-law, Dudley and Vernette Smith, Larry Sheppard, Michael Sheppard, Charles Sheppard, and Nathan Sheppard, all of Roanoke, Paul and Kathy Sheppard of Fredonia; brother in-law, James and Dannette Cantrell of Big Canoe; sisters in-law, Mary Edith Watkins of Newnan, Jane Cantrell of Beaufort, NC; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cantrell. The funeral mass will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at St. George Catholic Church in Newnan, with interment in the Grantville Cemetery. Mary Patricia Carlisle

Mrs. Mary Patricia Moon Carlisle, age 76, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Mrs. Carlisle was born April 21, 1939, in LaGrange, daughter of the late Jesse and Myrtle Lanier Haynes. A resident of Troup County most of her life, she retired from NOK and was then employed as a handicap bus monitor for the Troup County School System. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son in-law, Janice and Keith Long, son and daughter in-law, Pastor James and Kim Moon, all of Hogansville; sister, Doris Sellers of Mountville; brother, Jesse (Bud) Haynes, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Jeff Long, James Moon, Jr., Jaffnie DeFriese and Jessica Jones; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J. D. Moon and Warren Carlisle. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, in the Chapel of Claude A. Frances Geraldine Gross

Frances Geraldine Gross, age 87, of Shiloh, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at St. Frances Hospital. Memorial services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Rev. Cullen Clements officiated. Mrs. Gross was born May 3, 1928, in Warm Springs the daughter of Walter Franklin Phillips and Lula Cartwright Phillips. She retired from Callaway Mills in Manchester and had also worked as a cashier at Spectrum and Lo Bucks in Manchester. Mrs. Gross was the widow of Bud Gross. She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Gross, a sister, Betty Faye Phillips; two brothers, Hubert and Bonnie Phillips. Survivors include her sons, Larry and Cindy Gross of Manchester, Roger Gross of Shiloh; four grandchildren, Amy McGrath of Houston, TX, Clint (Beth) Gross of Cumming, Katie (Rowdy) Yates of Shiloh, Michael (Amanda) Gross of Waverly Hall; nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Chase, Lamar, Abby, Ansley, Josh, Laney, Trey and Tucker; three sisters, Vicky Phillips of Atlanta, Linda (Joe) White of Warm Springs, Gloria Aultman of Macon; one brother, Ted (Mary) Phillips of Macon and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles Lewis Estes

Charles Lewis Estes, of LaGrange, age 78, passed away on March 12, 2016. He was saved in the Methodist faith when he was a younger man. He was well known for his mechanical ability and as a fireman for the city of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Estes; parents, Ila Mae and Lewis Grady Estes. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Kenny) Henson; son, Clifford (Carrie) Estes; brother, Ruben Estes and several nieces, nephews and great nieces. The family will receive friends on March 15 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home. There was a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Barbara Gann

Mrs. Barbara Gann, age 81, of LaGrange, GA passed away March 15, 2016 at Wellstar, Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. Mrs. Gann was born March 11, 1935 in Franklin, GA to the late Orbie Cavender and Irene Norred Cavender. She was a member of Dunson Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son, David (Shelia) Beard; daughters, Dianna (Michael) Miller, Linda Rose, Jane Evans; grandchildren, Barbara Acevedo, Samantha Hammond, Amber Keim, Jessica Twilley, Charlotte Hill, Charleen Holloway, Melisa Anglin Hopson, Latosha Hicks, Crystal Miller, Katie Miller, Jessie Miller, Ashley Miller; 23 great grandchildren ;sister Irene Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, March 18, 2016 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the funeral home. Nancy J. Smith “Grandma”

Mrs. Nancy J. Smith “Grandma”, age 76, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born February 5, 1940 in Des Moines, IA, daughter of the late Lawrence William Everett and Dorothy May Marks Hancock. She was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church and was a professional tourist. Mrs. Smith was self-employed as the Promotional Director for Greater American Entertainment. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Milton Smith and a daughter, Angela Jane Phillips. Survivors include her children, Greg (Sandy) Beckett, Doug (Suzy) Beckett, William (Christy) Smith, Stormi (Jason) Crowe, and Beverly (Adam) Harper; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Larry Everett; and many extended family and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Baptist Tabernacle Church with Rev. Jimmy McMillian and Rev. Bobby Bozeman officiating.
