Mrs. Velma Gray

Mrs. Velma Arrington Gray, age 82, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Gray was born April 13, 1933, in Bowdon, daughter of the late Amos and Arizona Bailey Arrington. She lived in Valley, AL before returning to make her home in Hogansville in 1998, was Baptist by faith, and retired from Goetz Gasket in LaGrange. Survivors include her daughters and sons in-law, Brenda and Dennis Sims of Hogansville, Cathy and Steve Hendrix of LaGrange; grandchildren, Michelle and Greg Morris of LaGrange, Chris and Susan Sims of Moreland, Christina and Brandon Christie and Megan Hendrix, all of LaGrange; great-grandchildren, Trevor Morris, Gunnar Morris, Will Thrower, Brayden James, Tinley Christie and Aiden Hendrix; her sister, Elizabeth Aldridge of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Carroll L. Gregory, Jr.

Carroll L. Gregory, Jr., age 83, of Woodbury, died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus. Memorial services was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Manchester. Rev. W.H. Fancher officiated. Carroll was born in Cross Hills, South Carolina on September 4, 1932. After living in Oklahoma with his family, they moved to Georgia where they finally settled in Woodbury. Carroll graduated Meriwether County High School in 1950 and started working for the Department of Transportation. He decided to join the Air Force that same year, during which time he attended the Air Force Tech School and studied Mathemetics and Electronics. Upon his discharge in 1953, he returned to his job at the Department of Transportation and worked there until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of Woodbury Baptist Church. Carroll had many hobbies including making bows and arrows, knives, reloading ammunition, painting and singing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and was the widower of Rosa Jean Hart Gregory. Survivors include his son, Greg Gregory and his wife, Nancy; his granddaughters, Lauren and Jennifer Gregory; his great grandsons, Grayson Trimble and Tucker Barbee all of Columbus; his sister, Delores Chapman of Atlanta and his nephew, Dave Chapman of Atlanta. Sylvia J. Lance

Ms. Sylvia J. Lance, age 57, of LaGrange, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at Emory Medical Center in Atlanta. Sylvia was born April 13, 1958, in LaGrange, the loving daughter of Ray and Imogene Carr Webb. Sylvia was employed in the authorization department at American Home Shield, in LaGrange. She is survived by her daughter, Destiny Terry; son, Steven (Tracie) Webb; sisters, Jan (Randy) Thomas and Bonnie (Wayne) Crews; grandchildren, Tyson Terry, Heaven (Jonathon) Hyatt, Tristan Webb, Tre Nobley, Sylvia “Lizzy” Webb and Katelyn Nelson; one great-grandson Drayton Hyatt and several nieces and nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Susan Monaghan and Kim Webb and one brother, Ray Anthony Webb

The family received friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home, LaGrange. Terry Lamar Moore

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Terry Lamar Moore, of Darden Road, was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, East 10th Street in West Point. Rev. Crawford Strozier officiated. Burial was in the Southview Cemetery. Mr. Moore, a native of LaGrange, was born November 2, 1970 and was son of William Henry and Joanne Williams Moore. He was a 1990 graduate of LaGrange High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University. He was employed as a quality engineer at Sejong Georgia LLC. He joined the Solomon Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Luke Hall. He leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife, Joyce Ann Moore; a loving and devoted daughter, Jasmine Moore; two stepdaughters: Rodaisha and Jameisha Holman, all of LaGange; one loving granddaughter, Jaylee Nariah McCullough; a loving and devoted mother, Joanne Moore; sister, Gwendolyn Burton; brother, William Jerome Moore, all of LaGrange; three loving nieces: Niya Partridge, Jessica and Whitney Moore; one nephew, Jordan Partridge, all of LaGrange; three aunts: Willie Mae Ferrell, Rosa (Willie) Swanson and Machella Moore, all of LaGrange; two uncles, Melvin (Alma) Moore, LaGrange and Charlie Wheeler Williams, Battle Creek, MI; great aunt: Mary Moreland; twelve sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; loving godmother, Edna Morris, LaGrange; three loving and devoted friends: Ellis (Whoop) and Terri Gates of LaGrange; Kenny Burton, Roanoke, AL; three god daughters; cousins, other relatives and friends. Frank Hand, Jr.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. James Hand Jr., of LaGrange, was Friday, March 18, 2016 at 1:00PM at the Antioch Baptist Church on Sunset Street. Dr. W. T. Edmondson officiated. Burial was in the Southview Cemetery. Mr. Hand, a native of Troup County, was born December 2, 1934 and was the son of the late James and Addie B. Hand. He attended Pleasant Hill School and was employed for many years with Sims Lumber Company. He joined the Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. He leaves to cherish his memories, three loving brothers: Charlie (Sallie) Hand, John Hand and Pharo Hand; many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Freddie Sue McFarland; one sister-in-law, Cora Alice Hand; nephews: Willie Hand Sr., Colton Brown, Edward Cofield, and Isaiah Huzzie.

Carolyn Johnson Bradford
The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Carolyn Johnson-Bradford of Hamilton Road was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Warren Temple United Methodist Church. Rev. Lovett Thornton and Rev. Ernest Abernathy officiated. Burial was in the Southview Cemetery. Mrs. Bradford, a native of LaGrange, was born November 25, 1951 and was the daughter of the late Doc Poythress and Jessie Marie Johnson. Carolyn joined the Saint James C.M.E. Church early in life and remained a devoted member. She was a 1969 graduate of East Depot High School and previously was employed with the Troup County School System. She later was employed with the Walmart Distribution Center and retired after thirteen years of service.
She was an avid football fan. The Atlanta Falcons held a special place in her heart. Carolyn loved coordinating reunions and cooking for family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons: Tobias B. Johnson (DePaula), Chauncy D. Bradford (Dena), Marcus A. Johnson and Henry L. Bradford; one brother, Gary Johnson; sisters: Evelyn Jones and Patricia Johnson; grandchildren: Chablisia (Shae) Tinker, Tavarious Johnson, Destiny Johnson, Zaria Johnson, Jaiden Bradford, Jovanna Bradford, Chauncy Bradford Jr., Jasmine Thornton; godson, Carlton (Nylus) McCamey; aunts: Annie Ruth Lovelace, Elizabeth Johnson, Mabel Abernathy, Sandra Johnson; uncle, Cliff Johnson; devoted friends: Melody Wilkerson, Joyce Cox, Regina Ray Simmons, Diane Rachel, Gail J. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving grandparents: Tom and Jessie Mae Johnson; grandmother, Minnie D. Heard; brothers: Clayton Johnson, Glenn Johnson and Alvin Stephens; grandson, Notorian Brown; nephew, Tracey Johnson; uncle, Walter Johnson; and aunts: Helen Johnson and Dorothy Johnson Morris.
